Hyderabad: The High Commission of India and Indian community organisations celebrated 70 years of India’s Independence in London on Monday, a statement released by Telangana Association of United Kingdom (TAUK) said.
TAUK represented Telangana State with a stall setup at the event.
The programme started with High Commissioner YK Sinha unfurling the National Flag, after which he addressed the crowd.
Thousands of NRIs converged from all parts of UK to make the event a success, the statement read.
According to TAUK, community organisations put up nearly 80 stalls offering various regional cuisines, and put up a rich display of cultural programmes showcasing the cultural heritage of India.
TAUK stall was a special attraction for the crowd there, as it highlighted Telangana’s historic site Charminar and displayed Telangana Chief Minister’s poster at the stall entrance, apart from showcasing the State’s history, culture, tourism, development, government achievements, etc., event organisers said.
TAUK reiterated their support to Telangana government and to the efforts of Minister KTR in support of handloom weavers.
Indian High Commissioner RK Sinha and British Parliament Members Virendra Sharma and Seema Malhotra visited the Telangana stall and appreciated TAUK members for their efforts in marketing Telangana on global platform, the statement said.
